How to get rid of moles

Getting rid of moles is not a difficult thing, or at least this is what they say. But they also warn it takes a lot of patience since they don’t abandon their tunnel easily and it is also hard to identify which of the mole tunnels are active or not. Moreover, it is a little tricky to establish whether it is a mole tunnel since there is the possibility to be something else. Many people make this mistake: they dug looking for moles but it is actually a tunnel made by groundhogs or gophers. The conical structure of the burrows is different, so this should help in finding out what you are actually dealing with.

There are several reasons to get rid of a mole, mostly the concerns of the gardeners that the moles might damage a garden, depending how hungry the mole is and depending on the species we have in the garden. So, a gardener needs to decide whether to get rid of the mole or get rid of garden pests and grubs. The only reason why a mole moves to one’s garden or under the lawn is the fact there is food in there, and plenty of it. Moles eat earthworms or grubs.

The first step in getting rid of moles is identify the active tunnels; once you have found a straight one stomp it with your feet. If it’s an active runaway the mole will build it back in less than a day and will offer you the confirmation of what you’re dealing with. Once the active tunnel is found you need to get to action: you can get rid of the mole with a pit trap, meaning make your way into the tunnel without damaging it too much, and excavate the earth to put inside a jar or a coffee can, and then cover it well to be no light in there. You can check it once or twice a day and if you catch it you can let her lose somewhere away from your garden or lawn, but be happy you still let her live.

If this doesn’t work, there is good news: there are some mole killing traps on the market, and you have to decide how you want to catch and kill the mole, but I wont get into such details since seems spooky to me. Victor& Nash have one of the most popular devices, but you can find others online or in stores as well.

If you don’t like any of the solutions I have given so far you can try flooding the moles. The key is, again, find an active tunnel, insert the hose there and flood. You can wait meanwhile for the mole to get out and you can now catch it.

I am now running out of solutions, hope this will actually work for those who didn’t like any of the previous: build barriers to get rid of the moles, or you can as well build them as a prevention method, in a certain area of your garden.
